4.Major physical properties of continuous casting powder

This section describes the physical properties that must be held when designing the powder for continuous casting. In order to fully fulfill the function of the powder for continuous casting, adjust the physical properties related to each function. Regarding the heat insulation of molten steel, the bulk density of powder and the amount of heat generated when a exthothermic material is added are relevant. To prevent reoxidation of molten steel, molten steel is sealing from air by flux layer, so proper adjustment of basicity, etc.. should be made to prevent reoxidation by powder. Regarding the absorption of inclusions, the interfacial tension between molten steel and molten flux is the major controlling factor. Regarding the lubrication between the mold and the solidified steel, the viscosity and solidification temperature for inflow between the mold and the solidified steel are important. The heat flux from steel to mold is controlled by the solidification temperature that determines the proportion of the solid phase and crystallization related to radiant heat transfer. There is no significant effect on thermal conductivity. This is due to the thin flux film and other high thermal resistance.
