2.Function of continuous casting powder
Powder for continuous casting is added on the molten steel in the mold. The powder is melted by the heat from the molten steel, and the upper part becomes the powder layer and the part in contact with the molten steel becomes the molten layer. These flux layers formed on the top of the molten steel exert functions such as heat insulation, prevention of reoxidation of the molten steel, and absorption of inclusions. Molten powder flows between the mold and the solidified steel shell. When flowing in, the mold side is cooled and becomes the solid phase, the side in contact with the steel becomes the liquid phase, and acts as a lubricant between the mold and the steel. Mainly due to the properties of the solid phase, it is possible to adjust the heat flux from the steel to the mold.
